Altered Shelf Tutorial

I often will find pieces that are slightly damaged or just need a little love and then totally re-create them.  This shelf is exactly that……

When I found it in the clearance bin it was a mess......

I didn't like the color and the hooks were all broken.....

The framed out sections were supposed to be chalkboard but it just didn't work for what I wanted so I bought it at a great price, removed the chalkborad piece and got to work.

After taking the remaining pieces of the hooks off, I used a flat spray paint to cover the entire shelf.....

Once I had it painted, I lightly sanded off the edges all around to give it a more weathered look.

I cut pieces of patterned paper to cover the chalkboard and adhered them before I attached the board back to the shelf.

I added new white hooks ….. and created paper florettes and added stickers and chipboard alphas to embellish....

I love how the shape of the shelf is the same, but it looks completely different…..just add a little paint, new hooks and some fabulous Bella Blvd. product and Emma has a new shelf for her room !!

I hope this inspires you to look at the clearance bins in a different light :))

pinwheel tutorial

There are many ways to create a pinwheel but this is the way I create mine …. hope this helps !!!

These are the tools I make sure I have ready before I begin. The wider the paper strip, the wider the florette will be…..Always use a 12" length....

If you would like a fun border on your pinwheel, I choose to punch it before I move forward.

I'm a sanding block girl, so I do this step next.....

Then I score….For a tighter pinwheel you will want to score every 1/4"….for a larger (higher) pinwheel you can score every 3/4" or even 1" if you desire even more dimension

Next, accordian fold the full piece.....

When you get to the end, snip off ONE fold as shown.

Use a quick dry adhesive to adhere the ends together....

This will create an accordion circle like above.

I use a punched circle with a larger glue dot to adhere my pinwheel to.

Pinch into the center….

…..and push flat.  I will add a drop of quick dry glue to the center and hold for a minute or two until it holds.

Embellish using stickers, chip shapes, buttons or flags and add to a card, layout or alter project too .....

Come on back here tomorrow to check out a fun altered project I created for Bella Blvd.

7th Birthday Card

It was Alexander's birthday on Thursday so I created this card for him using some of my favorite
Bella Blvd. and Core'dinations supplies......

I sanded a piece of spotted Core'dinations cardstock to add to the white base of the card. I ran the orange 'brights' core cardstock through my big shot with a star embossing folder and lightly sanded the top.

One of my favorite Bella collections is 'Super Stud' and I've been saving my last few bits....this card was the perfect occasion to pull it out.......

I added some cardstock stickers, created a flag using a 'miniatures' sticker and a toothpick, added 'seven' using high five alphas, wrapped the card with twine and finished it off with a button too !!

..... and he LOVED it !!!

Today is his Scooby Doo themed party so make sure to check back for pics.....

Last Core'dinations Team-Up Layout

Today is the last day for the Bella Blvd / Core'dinations Team Up ...... Both design teams have some fabulous inspiration for you so make sure to check them out HERE and HERE....

Emma rides A LOT so needless to say I have a ton of photos of her on a horse !!  I am that scrapbooker that is always looking to use product for something other than the 'theme' it was created for.  With this shot of Emma and her newest horse (a girl this time :)) I chose Bella's Baby Girl collection.

I used a white base from the Coredinations 'Spotted' cardstock (my new fave) and lightly sanded off the top.  I also cut a strip from a brown piece of spotted cardstock and ran it through a border punch and then sanded the top to show the dots.

After I had my borders and patterned paper where I wanted them I added desginer tape and embellishments too.  I braided (3) colors of twine together to create the heart and added stickers, a flag and a crochet flower.  I often will cut stickers to make them work for me which is what I did to the 'it doesn't get better then this' sticker.  It worked much better for my layout when I cut it into pieces !!

Make sure you head over to BOTH blogs and enter to win some fabulous prizes too .....

Check back tomorrow for some birthday party pics of Alexander's  7th birthday card and some fun projects I've made for his Scooby Doo party too !!!

Another Core'dinations Layout

Exciting projects ALL WEEK over on the Bella Blog and Core'dinations blog too !!

The Bella Blvd. Design Team and Core'dinations Team have gotten together to share FABULOUS cardstock and INCREDIBLE Bella product to create wonderful inspiration for you ......

Here is my 2nd layout for the Core'dinations and Bella Blvd. team up....

This picture of Emma is a favorite that I hadn't yet added to her album. She is 11 yrs old now and was 5 in the photo. The colors of the Sunshine & Happiness collection was exactly what I needed to get me motivated. The Coredinations cardstock was the perfect addition to the bright Bella patterns.

I chose a yellow 'spotted' piece for the base and sanded the top off to have the dots pop. To add to the blue in the flowers, clouds and Emma's bathing suit I chose a piece of solid from the 'brights' collection and ran it through my Big Shot with a floral embossing folder to match the flowers of the patterned paper. I have been a big Coredinations fans for a very long time and just love the versatility and dimension that it adds to any project.

AND.... there is a GIVE-AWAY on the Bella Blog too so check it out and enter to WIN !!

Check back tomorrow for my last layout of this team up.....

Bella Blvd. & Core'dinations Team Up

AND.... there is a GIVE-AWAY on the Bella Blog too so check it out and enter to WIN !!

Here's my layout for today.....

I was so excited to finally work with these pictures of Alex and his puppy Oscar. The colors of the 'Tail Waggers and Cat Naps' collection were the prefect match with the new Coredinations 'Spotted' cardstock. I am a total sanding block girl so this cardstock is a BIG favorite of mine.

I sanded the top off of the base sheet as well as the brown cardstock too. The colors and patterns coordinated so well that I even added a strip of 'pickle juice dot' designer tape to a strip of cardstock and then used a paw print border punch on it to create a custom border shown above the 'bone' strip.

After precison cutting out several of the cute cuts, I added flags, stickers and a button with twine too. I was thrilled with how it all came together.

Check back tomorrow for another fun layout I created for this team-up !!!

Summer received her first camera at only 6 years old and her first SLR when she was 12. When Summer was in high school she kept scrapbooks of photos and memorabilia taped to typing paper tucked into 3 ringed school binders. It is only natural she started scrapbooking as we know it today after the birth of her son 15 years ago. Summer considers herself a traditional clean lined multi photo scrapbooker. She absolutely loves playing with a little of the unexpected on her layouts whether it's a pop of color or a product used in a new way.

Summer has been published in every major scrapbooking publication as well as being named a 2007 Creating Keepsakes Hall of Fame Winner and 2009 Memory Makers Master. She also co-wrote the book Remember This which was published in 2010. She currently designs for Jillibean Soup, Lily Bee Designs and Scrapbooking and Cards Today.

happy father's day

I hope you're having a wonderful father's day !!!

Here is the card I made for my dad ......

I used 'Note To Self' by Echo Park (LOVE this collection) .... I used patterned paper to cover the front and added a few cardstock stickers before adding twine and buttons .... I created the flag from a pin, patterned paper and mini alphas and then precision cut arrows from one of the patterns to move to the inside of the card for the sentiment !!

This is the inside ..... I cut out a couple of tickets and added the mini alpha stickers to finish the sentiment .... of course raised with 3D foam :))

I'm cooking dinner tonight and they'll be here any minute so I've got to run ......

a new layout

if you're anything like me, you take a ton of photos ..... i always have lots sitting in my basket ready to go and these are no exception.....

my trip to WI in April was one of my favorites and i've been trying to get all my photos into my album....

......for this layout of me and my friend Allyson I used new 'Summer Fresh' by Simple Stories.....

(you can find it HERE)

.....i LOVE the way the pieces are layered within the print of the pattern as they are a great start to a layout....then it is easy to add word stickers like i did here as well as a 'good times' bingo card too !!

Hope you're having a great weekend so far.....

Check back tomorrow for my Father's Day card !!

scooby doo invites

Alex decided on a Scooby Doo themed party for this 7th birthday this year and I had so much fun shopping for it !!

I found a ton of cool bits online at Party City and had them shipped to my girlfriend in WI since they don't ship to canada and then the girls shipped them to me.....I got the notice that they're at the PO and can't wait to pick up the box tomorrow !!

So this is what I came up with for the invites.......

I used a blue cardstock base and added white to the front with a fun paw print border punch on the right edge......

.....I cut out a dog bone on my Cricut and wrapped a golf tee with bakers twine too !!

Alex wanted his party to be held at our local mini golf that has bumper boats.  I usually have the kids parties at the house but he REALLY wanted to play golf with his friends and seriously asked me every day until I said yes.....I know, great parenting giving in right :))

I've got layouts for you tomorrow so come on back .....

.....another (10) days - sorry !!!

Hey there everyone.....

First let me apologize for my (10) days away......it's been a crazy week and a bit since I got home from the fabulous Crop & Create event in Burnaby.

I got home late Sunday night and ended up at the Critical Care hospital in Vancouver on Tuesday with our dachshund puppy Oscar.

It's been a long (10) days but i FINALLY got to bring him home tonight !!  He's got a long road ahead of him but we're hopeful ..... I have to tell you that the care that we received from start to finish was incredible.

I ended up taking up residence in their 'quiet room' and I came in a few days ago to this sign on the door - cute.....

....and then today when I put him in the truck to come home I just couldn't make him sit in his crate so he sat on the front passenger seat and basked in the sunlight :))

I know I've been promising project photos since I got home from Crop & Create....and they start tomorrow !!

I've got some new layouts, a few cards and will start with Alexander's 7th birthday invitations....think Scooby Doo themed :))

Thanks for your patience.....I'm back now and can't wait to get back into the swing of things.....i promise......
